PAXTON - Funeral services for Floyd N. "Cy" Shreves, 74, of Paxton will be at 2 pm Friday at Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton, the Rev Harold Bodeen officiating.
Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm today at the funeral home.
Mr. Shreves died at 9:50 pm Tuesday (June 2, 1987) at the Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City.
He was born Jan. 11, 1913, at Flora, a son of Homer E and Eva M Treach Shreves. He married Bernice A.M. Brant on June 4, 1939, at Crawfordsville, Ind. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Shreves of Rantoul, a daughtger, marlene Goben of Gibson City; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Harold Shreves of Paxton, Donald Shreves of Peoria and Everett Shreves of Logansport, Ind.; and a sister, Maxine Allen of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mr. Shreves spent his early years at Flora and attended Foosland and Paxton schools. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. In the early 1940s he was employed at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul. He was also employed with the Paxton Street Department. In 1974 he retired from the Northern Illinois Gas Co., Paxton, after working there for 21 years.

ELLIOTT – Leslie W. Jamison, 93, of Elliott died Sunday (June 27, 2010) at his home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City.
Mr. Jamison was born on Aug. 18, 1916, in Kinmundy, a son of Gilbert and Abby (Mulvany) Jamison.
He was married to Mildred E. Brandt for 74 years. She died on Nov. 22, 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Richard of Ellsworth and Larry of Gibson City; 11 grandchildren, Guy, Troy, Lisa, Annette, Tim, Steve, Melody, Matthew, Melissa, Brandy and Dusten; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, two daughters-in-law, a great-granddaughter and a son, Tom.
Mr. Jamison started out as a farmer. He then was engaged in the trucking business. He was the road commissioner for Dix Township for 20 years and the Elliott water commissioner for many years. He was also a member of the Elliott fire department.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Elliott AMVETS.

Fairbury - Margaret A. Wenger, RN, 39, of Fairbury died at 5:30 pm Friday in Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, during heart surgery.
She had undergone surgery there in April, 1972. Mrs. Wenger, who became ill March 18, also had been a patient at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
A former Gibson City resident, she was on the staff of Fairbury Hospital for many years, having served as night supervisor of the obstetrical department.
Services will be at 11 am Monday in Stiver Home for Funerals, Fairbury, with the Rev. George Russell and the Rev Oren Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 pm today at the funeral home.
Born Dec. 31, 1933 at Enfield, Mrs. Wenger was a daughter of Sam and Ella Seal Thomas. She was a graduate of Gibson City High School and Mennonite School of Nursing, Bloomington.
She was married to Everett Wenger Aug. 24 1954, in Gibson City. Mrs. Wenger practiced nursing until a year ago.
She leaves her husband, a son, Ken and a daughter, Karen, at home, and a sister, Corrine Small of Colfax. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wenger was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fairbury, Meri-Mates Class, the Wesleyana Circle and the American Nurses Association. She served as an instructor for the American Red Cross home nursing program.
The family suggests that persons wishing to express sympathy in tangible form contribute to a fund for a nursing scholarship to be established in her memory.1 |
