Visitation will be on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 6:00-8:00PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. On January 29, 2020, LeOra went to meet her Lord and Savior at her daughter Sharon's home in Gretna, Nebraska. LeOra Elsie Claus Wells, daughter of Henry and Martha (Dass) Claus was born June 18, 1923 on a farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church near Ocheyedan, Iowa by Pastor E.J. Kallsen. She attended Center and Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1941. LeOra was united in marriage to Darrell Wells on February 20, 1944. They farmed together on a farm north of Ocheyedan for thirty eight years until retiring in Lake Park, Iowa in the fall of 1981. They spent over thirty winters in Mesa, Arizona. LeOra served her Lord as an active member of Zion Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the LWML, (Lutheran Womens Missonary League) and also sang in the choir. After moving to Lake Park she became a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was a member of the Concordia Guild. Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Sharon Bossman of Gretna, Nebraksa, Charlene (Terry) Bockman of Milford, Iowa and Marlene Keller of Apache Junction, Arizona; grandchildren, Michael (Kathleen) Bossman, Jeffrey (Kelli) VanGelder, Joel (Angie) VanGelder, Jason (Melanie) VanGelder, Sarah (Doug) Beck, Laura (Ian) Folsom and Hans Jacob Keller; great-grandchildren, Makayla Bossman, Madison Bossman, Paige (Jesse) Reed, Madison (Jesse) Glade, Megan (Kyle) Knutson, Codey Fisher, Theodore VanGelder, Brooke Galema, Katrin VanGelder, Elsie Beck and Dylan Beck; great-great-grandson, Beckett Glade; sisters-in-law, Vivian Wells and Marlys Claus and many nieces and nephews. He was the son of Henry and Martha (Dass) Claus. He lived his youth in rural Ocheyedan where he attended a country school. He attended Ocheyedan Community High School. Roger was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan. He served in the U. S. Army where he attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Marlys Meier of Fulda, Minnesota, on January 23, 1955, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fulda, Minnesota. They lived and farmed north of Ocheyedan. In 1992, they retired and moved to town. He is a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan, where he held various offices. He was presently a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan. Roger was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a former board member of the Osceola County Extension Services. Roger loved to be around his family and attend his grandchildren's functions, sports events, and camping together. He also enjoyed gardening. Roger passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2006, in Janesville, Minnesota, while camping with his family. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Marlys Claus of Ocheyedan, IA; his children: Doug Claus of Ocheyedan, IA, JoAnn and Rich Crandall of Lakeville, MN, Dennis and Kelley Claus of Ocheyedan, IA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Emily and Bruce Van Beek and their children: Torii Van Beek and Reagen Van Beek; Martha and Josh DeWeerd and their children: Karenna DeWeerd, Erica DeWeerd, and Michael DeWeerd; Grace Claus and fiancÈ Josh and child: Isabelle Claus; Guthrie Claus and fiancee Ann Van Westen and child: Hadley Dake; Evan Claus, Audrey Claus, Trent Claus, Danielle Claus, Megan Crandall; two sisters: LeOra and Darrell Wells of Lake Park, IA, Irene and Bruce Street of Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Joycelyn; and his parents. The two white roses in the casket spray represent Joycelyn and Roger. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan, Iowa with Rev. Russell Anderson officiating. The organist was Karen Glade. Casket bearers were: Trent Claus, Guthrie Claus, Evan Claus, Josh DeWeerd, Josh Bisch and Bruce Van Beek. Interment at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, Ocheyedan, Iowa. Obituary | Obituary: The obituary for Darrell was recorded. Darrell Glenwood Wells was born at home near Milford, Iowa on March 9, 1917 to Glenn and L.Nora (Rute) Wells. He attended Excelsior and Lake Park schools, graduating from Lake Park High School in 1936. On February 20, 1944 Darrell was united in marriage to LeOra Claus. Darrell and LeOra farmed northwest of Ocheyedan for thirty-eight years and retired to their present home in Lake Park in 1981. His passing ends a marriage partnership of over sixty-four years. Darrell was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Ocheyedan. He was an active member at Zion, serving in many offices of the church and singing in the choir. He was also active in the Lutheran Layman's League. After moving to Lake Park, he was an active member of Concordia Luther Church until his death. Being in church and serving his Lord was very important to him. Until his health would no longer allow it, he enjoyed hunting, especially with his grandson's, playing horseshoes and pool. He was avery good dancer and loved to dance. Darrell went home to be with his Lord and Savior early on October 16, 2008 at his home in Lake Park at ninety-one years of age. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife LeOra; daughters, Sharron Bossman of Lennox, South Dakota,; Charlene Bockman (Terry) of Milford, Iowa and Marlene Keller of Apache Junction, Arizona; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Glenora Rodenberg. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Duane; son-in-law Gary Bossman and granddaughter-in-law Amanda VanGeider.6 |
