He died August 31, 1964, in Clarkfield hospital. Emil was born 18 September 1874, in Friedrichorst Germany. He came to America when he was 18. He married Ida Redmann at Gibbon, MN., on March 15, 1903. Survivors include his wife Ida, four sons, John Radunz, Ocheyedan, IA.; Henry Radunz, Cottonwood, MN.; Emil Radunz, Granite Falls, MN.; Otto Radunz, Louisville, KY.; four daughters, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Krueger, Redwood Falls, MN.; Mrs. Arthur (Lillian) Olson, Cottonwood, MN.; Mrs. Arthur (Selma) Werner, Redwood Falls, MN.; and Mrs. Harry (Violet) Hinmers, Portland, OR. There are three sisters living in St.Paul and a brother in Germany. One infant daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Radunz lived first at Gibbon, MN., and then Granite Falls before moving to Wood Lake. He spent his last five years with a daughter in Cottonwood. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church. Pallbearers were Howard Radunz, Douglas Olson, Donald Krueger, Dean Werner, Arthur Olson Jr. and Curtis Krueger. The Rev. Norval Kock officiated and burial was made in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery at Granite Falls with the Hamre service in charge. Emil left Germany from Antwerp, Belgium, and sailed on the ship S.S. Philadelphia and landed in the port of Philadelphia on the 10 of March 1893. His father came before him. He married Ida Redmann in Gibbon, MN. in 1903. They farmed a very short time at Gibbon, MN. before moving to Granite Falls to farm. They purchased 160 acres in Wood Lake Township, SE 1/4 of Sec.17. Here they resided and raised their family until retiring. Emil applied for citizenship in 1918, when he was 43 years old, but for some unknown reason he did not become a citizen until 1941, when he was 66 years old.1 |

Funeral services were held for Christof Radunz, who passed away January 9, 1935, at the home of his son, Christ Radunz, in Stony Run township. Services were conducted at the home and from German Lutheran church, with Rev. O.C.Wolff officiating. Interment was made in the German Lutheran cemetery. The pallbearers were Rhinold Kirschbaum, Herman Jeseritz, Christ Kirschbaum, Arthur Just, George Kruse and Herman Kirschbaum. Christof Radunz was born in Germany on October 25, 1844 and came to America in 1890 where he worked for a very short time in New York. During that same year he came to Yellow Medicine county where he farmed until 1905 when he moved to Granite Falls. Four years ago he became ill and has since that time made his home with his son. He was seriously ill only three days before his death and had reached the age of 90 years, 2 months and 14 days. The deceased is survived by five sons, Emil, Christ, Herman, Rudolph and Rhinold, four daughters, Gusta, Martha, Lena and Hattie. One daughter, Mary, passed away 30 years ago and a infant in Posen township in October 1897. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. When he settled in Yellow Medicine county he purchased 40 acres from Fredricke and Jacob Schrupp for $243.52 in NE 1/4, SE 1/4 in section 5, Posen Township. He then got a Homestead Patent on 80 acres in S 1/2, SW 1/4, in Section 4, Posen Township 113. In 1902 he sold the 40 acres to John H. Martens for $408.00. In the same year he also sold the 80 acres to L. McKechnie. He also owned two lots in Wood Lake, MN and sold them. In 1899 his wife left him and filed for divorce. The divorce became final in 1902. He was awarded all the property and all the children except one minor child which he had to pay $400.00 alimony. In 1905, Christof purchased Lot 18, in Block 34 in Granite Falls and made his home there.1 |
