Obituary18 July 2010Obituary: The obituary for Lewis was recorded on 18 July 2010. Lewis John Duensing, Jr., 76, son of John and Alida (Heitmann) Duensing, died last Tuesday. Lewis was born April 10, 1934, on the family farm near Byron. He graduated from Byron High School in 1951. After high school, Lewis worked as a farmer with his father and did light construction work. Lewis served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany where he served as a military police officer in 1956 and 1957.
After serving in the Armed Forces, Lewis returned to Byron where he worked as a farmer on the family farm for the remainder of his life. In addition, he was involved with the Byron implement dealership.
Lewis married Gladys Mae Gebhards on April 17, 1960. To this union three children were born, Kirk John, Tobe Alan and Jennifer Sue. Among the activities Lewis loved other than farming were working in his shop building tools and machinery to be used on the farm, playing cards with his relatives, playing practical jokes on his many friends and family, and fishing with his grandsons and nephews.
Lewis was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron, his entire life. He served on the church council for many years. In addition, he served on the school board in Byron, was a member of Lions Club, Thayer County Hospital Board, Thayer County Feeder's Board and sat on many boards of the local co-op branches.
Lewis served three terms as a Thayer County commissioner, retiring in 2006.
Survivors include his children: Kirk and Tobe, or rural Byron, and Mrs. Todd Crosbie (Jennifer); grandchildren Elizabeth, Trevor, Cole, Trey and Hunter Duensing, Mrs. Clint Siemesen (Layce), and Maximilian, great-grand daughter Grae; sisters: Lola Eitzmann, Byron, Esther Elting, Davenport, and Mrs. Jim Lambert (Verna), East Grand Forks, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; and a sister Mrs. Adolph Eitzmann (Loriene)
His funeral was held Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron, with Pastors Connie Raess and Daryl Nelson officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery Byron. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, was in charge of the arrangements.1

Darrel D. Koch, 68, Beatrice, died Friday morning, Jan. 6, 2006, at his home. He was born July 12, 1937, at Diller, and graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1955. He was married to Carolyn Shotsman on June 28, 1959, at Pawnee City, and they lived in the Wymore/Blue Springs area until moving to Beatrice in 1963. He was employed as a salesman, feed mill operator and delivery man for the Farmer's Co-op Elevator for 25 years, and enjoyed his grandchildren and his hobbies of antique cars, Nebraska football, fishing and camping.

Survivors: wife, Carolyn; sons, Delvin and wife Melissa and Rod and wife Lori, all of Beatrice; daughters, Bernita Morgan, Kari McPeek and husband Tom, Connie Heidbrink and husband Dave, Cammie Hellmer and husband Terry and Patty Kaufman and husband Paul, all of Beatrice; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Loren Koch and wife Susan of Marysville, Calif.; sister, Wanda Hammond and husband Bob of Littleton, Colo.; brother-in-law, Jack Wolf of Princeton, Ill.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Katherine (Lottman) Koch; brother, Don Koch; sister, Mavis Wolf.

At his request there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment of the cremains will be at a later date. A guest book for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, in charge.2
