Hartwig of McMinnville will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the McMinnville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kent Harrop officiating. Mrs. Hartwig died Sept. 26, 2004, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 87. Private family intermerment is planned. She was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Glasgow, Mont., daughter of Emory Brooks and Miriam Zane Battan Pease. She graduated from Glawsgow High School in 1934 and moved to McMinnville that year to attend Linfield College, from which she graduated in 1939. While at Linfield, she met and and on Aug. 9, 1940, married Alonzo Harm Hartwig. They lived in Wichita, Kan., Tatum, N.M., Glasgow, Harlem and Dillon, Mont., eventually getting to Havre, Mont., where they lived for 37 years. Over the years they had four childfen. While in Havre, she was organist for the First Baptist Church and the state president of the American Baptist Women and the first woman to serve as president of the American Baptists of Montana. She also served on the general council of American Baptists for six years. She was active i8n AAUW and Delta Kappa Gamma and well as teaching piano to many children in Havre. In 1988, she returned to McMinnville and continued to teach piano. She became an active member of the First Baptist Church of McMinnville and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Hartwig loved reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling with her husband. He preceded her in death in 2003. Survivors include a daughter, Lonnette Prather of Aloha; three sons, Ronald Hartwig and Rich Hartwig, both of Salem, and Paul Hartwig of Atlanta; a sister, Priscilla Poteet of Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Winifred Loverude and Miriam Moyer.3 |
