Johnson Hartwig, he married Clara Janszen on Feb. 23, 1946, in Peoria. She died Dec. 11, 1987, in Mapleton. He also was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Marjorie Hartwig and Marita Hartwig. Surviving is one son, Steven R. of Chicago. He was a laborer at WABCO in Peoria for 35 1/2 years, retiring in 1976. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 718 in Pekin. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, where memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cremation has been accorded and interment of ashes will follow the services at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. Wilton Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. She survives along with one daughter, Patricia Shernak of Bartonville; one brother, Richard, and four sisters, Florence Trunk, Viola Streitmiller, Louise Steveson, and Margaret Schreiber, all of Peoria; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. One son, Vernon "Butch," three brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. Since 1948, he worked as a carpenter with Carpenters Local 183, retiring in 1976. He was a World War II Army- Air Corps veteran. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Arthur I. Schudde will officiate. Second St. died at 11:39 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 1994, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Peoria to John M. and Anna Martha Hartwig Closen, he married Virginia Lee Weyand on Aug. 8, 1953, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Robin M. of Mapleton; two daughters, Virgie M. Frank of Washington and Julie A. Thompson of Canton; one brother, John of Pekin; seven sisters, Matilda Roth, Marie Calhoun, Mildred Honold, Clara Gudat and Ann Manns, all of Peoria, Viola Malson of Bartonville and Ruth Hall of Glasford; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Three brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren preceded him in death. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a farmer for Krause's Highland Farms for 25 years.He then worked for Laborers Local 165 in Peoria for six years and later in maintenance for the Pekin Housing Authority. He retired in 1989. There will be no funeral services. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Abts Mortuary. Cremation will be accorded, and burial of ashes will be in War Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charles H. Closen Memorial Fund, in care of Citizens Equity Federal Credit Union, 3515 Court St., Pekin 61554.1 |
