Memo | 25 August 1998 | Date I received from Frank--25 Aug 1998 I may have a little information that would be of interest to you about Raymond Jeff Cornelius. Aunt Katherine expressed a desire to 'find' Raymond, or at least find out what happened to him. Margaret told Aunt Katherine that I would locate Raymond for her. I am a retired law enforcement officer and now a professional investigator, so basicly this is what I do for a living. The following is a copy of a letter that I wrote Aunt Katherine. You may find it interesting as it does answer quite a few questions about Raymond Jeff Cornelius. FRANK HOWARD and ASSOCIATES, Ltd. POB 521087 Tulsa, Oklahoma 74152-1087 Telephone: (918) 622 3322 Fax: (918)865 7696 e-mail < fwhoward@iamerica > 17 March l998 Ms. Kathryn Beschwitz 407 Quitman Road Pittsburg, Texas 75686 Dearest Aunt Kathryn: The following are the facts surrounding the death of your beloved brother Raymond Jeff Cornelius. I am very sorry that it took me so long a time to find Raymond, but as you know I was working with some erroneous information. The Social Security Number, as written on his AAF Discharge papers was 324 07 1559. this was the error of some unknown AAF clerk typist. The proper SSN was , in fact, 324 07 1669. This small error caused a long delay in our search for Raymond. This plus the fact that he evidently did not wish to be found, and purposely took steps not to be located. I had checked the National Social Security Death Index, several times, during my search for Raymond. I was thinking about the search the other night and decided to try once again, on the chance that Raymond had passed away since my last search of the SSN Index. I found that Raymond had indeed passed away on l9 February l997, in Truth or Consequences, (Sierra County) New Mexico. Margaret called you that evening and told you the sad news. Knowing that you would want further information about Raymond's death, I undertook to ascertain the facts about his life over the past few years. These facts, as best that I could gather, are as follows: Raymond was residing at : The Casa Del Rio Apartments, 165 North Silver, Apt. #28, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. These apartments are government subsidized housing. Raymond had lived there since l980 / l98l (except for a short period of time that he had lived at the Sierra Rest Home, 1400 Silver Street, Truth or Consequences, NM, Phone: (505) 894 7855). Raymond had had a stroke in l993 and had lived at the rest home for a period of time after and during recovery. Raymond was reportedly a very private person, and reclusive. He had few friends and did not socialize or have visitors. He had not registered to vote. He owned no property, and paid no property taxes in Sierra County. The County Clerk and District Court had no records. There were no records of any utility deposits. The VA Center had no records. He reportedly stayed to himself and read a lot. He owned an automobile until his stroke, but had disposed of it after. I could find no record of a current New Mexico Drivers License. His closest friend may have been Tino Molinar, Manager of the Casa Del Rio Apartments. Tino had known Raymond for approximately ten years, and indeed was given power of attorney, by Raymond, during his time of recovery after the stroke. Tino, reportedly, petitioned the Social Security Office to have Raymond's Social Security increased by allowing him to draw SSI because of his disability. Raymond's sole income, reportedly, was his Social Security check. Apparently he did not have a pension from his employment. I was told that his check was $250 per month until Tino Molinar petitioned the Social Security Office for SSI, and then the check was raised to $480 per month. Raymond, reportedly also had a CD in the amount of $8, 000, prior to his convalescence from the stroke, but he had spent it on bills. A, Dr. Mario I. Herrera, MD was Raymond's attending Physician at the time of his stroke. Raymond was hospitalized in l995 with the flu. Other than these two illnesses I could find no record of other hospitalized illnesses for Raymond. Dr. Mario Herrera, MD, was the physician that signed the Death Certificate. Cause ofdeath was CVA (Cardiac Vascular Attack). Raymond suffered a massive heart attack in his apartment, and died instantly. He fell and did receive a small cut over his eye brow, but it did not bleed very much indicating that he died instantly. He would not have suffered any. Raymond was 6', 200 lbs, w/ Gray hair. French Mortuary, 303 North Cedar, Truth or Consequences, NM, Phone: (505) 894 2574, was the attending funeral parlor. Raymond was burred in the "Old" Hot Springs Cemetery. His grave is the first on the right entering through the south gate off 7th Street. A marker tag is in place to identify the plot, but no stone. Raymond had: $1,887.62, in the Bank of the Southwest of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. This money was used to defray the costs incurred in the funeral expense. Michael Kirikos (French Mortuary) was appointed special administrator. Mark A. Filosa, Esq. was the attorney for the applicant. The Hon. Edmund H. Kase, III was the presiding District Judge. The Probate Case Number is: PB-97-006 SEI. The costs exceeded the amount in Raymond's account, so the account was closed with this transaction. Raymond had no personal effects w/ exception of clothing which was given to charity. I was told that he had no pictures, letters or personal items in his apartment at the time of his death. Persons with knowledge: Tino Molinar Apartment Manager, Friend (505) 894 2503 165 North Silver Truth or Consequences, NM 87901 Tony Filosa, Esq. Attorney (505) 894 7161 PO Drawer 391 Truth or Consequences, NM 87901 Michael Kirikos Mortician (505) 894 2574 POB 112 Truth or Consequences, NM 87901 Kathryn, we are very sorry that we did not locate Raymond prior to his passing. I know that you would have liked to have re-establish contact with him. I also wish that we did not have to be the bearer of such sad tidings, but I guess that it at least allows you the opportunity of knowing what happened to him. I shall continue to follow up on some small details, and let you know if I have any success. Nothing big, but I am attempting to contacting all of these persons in an attempt to locate a recent picture of him, for you. I do not know if we will be successful in this endeavor, but I will let you know either way. Our love to you. Margie will call soon, and we shall try to get down to Pittsburg in the very near future. Our love, Later, at Katherine's request, I had a stone marker placed upon Raymonds grave. Aunt Katherine paid for the marker. A friend, in Truth or Consequences, as a favor to me, saw to the purchase and installation of the marker. Katherine seemed very pleased to bring closure to her quest to find her brother, Raymond.3 |
