From the Eagle Grove Eagle, Eagle Grove Iowa - January 28, 1965 Frank S Nelson Funeral Held in Baptist Church Frank S Nelson, 81, died Thursday morning Jan 21st at the Mathre Nursing Home, following a long illness. He had been in failing health for four years. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Baptist church with the Rev. Howard Chhurch officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, and seven children, Mrs. Nellie Butterfield of Bradenton, Fla., Mrs Margaret Louberto of Des Moines, Mrs. Duane Anderson of Renwick, Mrs. Bud Schaffer, Clifford and John Nelson of Eagle Grove and Ed of Peoria, Ill. Mr. Nelson was employed for 22 years as custodian of the Eagle Grove parks. For many years they resided at the Convalescent Home on South Jackson Ave. where Mrs. Nelson managed. She was the first manager of the Convalescent Home which the county operates here. Here from out-of-town for the services were: Mrs. Nellie Butterfield of Bradenton, Fla., Mrs. Margaret Louberto of Desmoines, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelson of Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Duane Anderson, Renwick, Wm. From The Flora Daily News-Record, Flora, IL - March 9, 1950 John Nelson Is Found Dead at Home Here Today Coroner Fred B Gibson called an inquest at 4:30 this afternoon, into the death of John Nelson, whose body was found hanging by a sash cord in a shed at the rear of his home on East Fourth street at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Suicide is expected to be the verdict rendered by the coroner's jury, with ill health believed to be the motive. Mr. Nelson has spent considerable time recently in Barnes Hospital at St. Louis, Mo., where he was treated for a serious nervous conditiion, and his health has shown no improvement. The body was found by Mrs. Nelson. She immediately summoned a doctor who prononced her husband dead. Mr. Nelson, a plumber by trade is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Goldia Glassford. The body is at the Hancock Funeral Home, where information can be secured concerning funeral arrangements, which are not yet made.
From The Flora Daily News-Record, Flora, IL - March 10, 1950 Funeral Rites To Be Held Sunday For John Nelson Funeral services for John Nelson, 58, who ended his own life at his home, on East Fourth street yesterday morning, will be held from the First Christian church here at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The minister, Rev. P. A. Willis will officate. Internment will follow in Elmwood cemetery with E. M. Petty, Clarence Burnett, William Mangis, Homer Bute, S. M. Hemphill and Charles Bender to serve as casket-bearers. The body is at the Hancock Funeral Home, where it will lie in state until the hour of final services.3 |

From the Dailey Clay County Advocate Press Goldie Glassford Goldie M Glassford, 86, Flora, died at 12:55pm Wednesday in the Flora Nursing Center. Funeral services will be at 10am Saturday at the Hosselton, Bookhout & Engelmeier Funeral Home in Flora, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9pm Friday at the funeral home. She was born Jan 24 1899 in Sanford Township to William and Nancy (Creek) Nelson. She married Fredrich Glassford on April 14, 1917 in Louisville. He preceeded her in death. She was a cook for many restaurants in Flora, a member of the Flora VFW auxillary post 3999, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Flora, a member of the Clay County Hospital Auxilliary and a charter member of the Senior Citizens Organization in Flora. She is survived by two sons, Fred (Pete) Glassford of Flora and John R Glassford of Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs Lynn (Johannah) Masters of Flora; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eva Glassford of Flora; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, one son, one daughter and two grandchildren.3 |
