Garretts, 86, of Morton died at 11:46 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Peoria to William and Ella (Knebel) Garretts. He married Barb Patterson on Dec. 14, 1984, in Canton. Surviving are his wife, Barb Garretts of Morton; four sons, Steve (Vickie) Garretts of Greeley, Colo., Vernon (Kathy) Garretts of Princeville, Larry Garretts and Gary Garretts, both of Peoria; two stepsons, Brent (Jeanne) Reddish of Washington and Brady Reddish of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandsons, Jeremy Garretts, Scott Garretts, Ryan Garretts, Brandon (Kelly) Garretts and Reed (Ashley) Garretts; four granddaughters, Amber (Greg) Denzel, Amy Garretts, B.J. Martin and Michelle Akridge; three stepgrandsons, Kyle Reddish, Cody Reddish and Chris (Jamie) Reddish; three stepgranddaughters, Randi (Patrick) Vaughn, Jolene (Steve) Aldus and Nicole (Reese) Reed; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon (Gertrude) Garretts of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanine Gottschalk. Bill was a World War II Navy veteran and served as a captain with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division 4. He worked at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1979 and also retired from PNC Bank. He was a member of Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, where he served as head usher for the past 18 years. Bill served on multiple boards and committees for Concordia Grade School, Trinity Lutheran Church and Calvary Bible Church. He was a former lead trainer for Peoria Obedience Training Club. Bill excelled in everything that he became involved with throughout his life. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Pastor Cal Rychener officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where military services will be conducted. Memorials may be made to Methodist Hospice, 221 NE Glen Oak Ave., Peoria, IL 61636; to the Northwoods Community Church Building Fund, 10700 N.
