He was born December 2, 1921 in Henry County, Indiana and lived nearly all his life in Madison County, graduating from Markleville High School. He began his career working at an automobile dealership in Middletown, worked at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and retired from Delco Remy-Anderson (UAW Local 662) as a toolmaker. He farmed for a period of time and operated a lawn equipment business for many years. Robert and Ruth were actively involved with the local schools while rearing their five children. They served on various committees at Fall Creek School and Markleville High School. They were avid fans of their children's and grandchildren's participation in sports and other extra-curricular events. He was also dedicated to IU basketball, Indy Colts, NASCAR and the Indy 500. He remained committed to his local community by serving on the Adams Township Advisory Board for many years and was instrumental in planning the fire station for Adams Township. He is survived by his sons, Robert L (Sandra) Gustin, John William "Bill" Gustin, and James E. (Linda) Gustin; daughters, Pamela (Dale) Gehrke and Linda Gustin; grandchildren, Naidne (Aaron) Gustin-Bilinski, Molly, Joe, Anne, Jay and Kris (Ashley) Gustin, Kelley (Andy) Dillon, Brad (Jamie) Oster and Ryan Oster; great grandchildren, Layne Gustin, Braden & Brinley Gustin, Madisen O'Dell, Braylee Dillon, and Austin Robert and Abigail Mae Oster and sister, Mary (Max) Markle. She was 54. She was born March 21, 1948 in Anderson, Indiana the daughter of Francis M. and Clara E. (Hyatt) Kinsey. She is survived by two sons, John J. and Jay M. Gustin of Chesterton; two daughters, Molly D. and Anne E. Gustin of Chesterton; a brother, Gary Kinsey of Florida; two sisters, Vicki (Alex) Stephens of Lake Nineveh, Ind. and Christina Kinsey, of California; parents, Francis M. (Alma) Kinsey of Indianapolis and Clara (Jim) Edelin of California and a grandmother, Iva Barnett of California. She was married to John W. “Bill” Gustin who survives in Portage.
