Obituary | 30 April 1952 | Obituary: The obituary for Ferdinand was recorded on 30 April 1952. Services were held on Friday afternoon, April 25, for Ferdinand Drentlaw in the Northfield Methodist church, of which he was a member, at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Max Volkmann, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Haines, accompanied by Mrs. Chester Fox, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden." Interment was in Groveland Cemetery in Dundas and the pallbearers were Hugh Drentlaw, Walter Drentlaw, Ed Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Walter Pritchard and Frank Schoen. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Drentlaw of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Olerud and son, Gerald and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Peterson of Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Russell of Owatonna; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Radmann and son, David, of Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Casey Nappin and family of Cannon Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. James Moriarity, Mrs. Lucille Hillestad, Mrs. Gordon Wolfe, Mrs. Norman Kalien, Mrs. George Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schoen, Mr. and Mrs. William Schoen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nappin and Miss LaDonna Nappin of Faribault. Ferdinand Louis Drentlaw, the son of Philip and Anna Theis Drentlaw, was born on a farm in Northfield township on March 22, 1875. He attended the rural school near his home, and on June 26, 1902, was married to Mary Minnie Johnson. They took up farming in Northfield township, where they lived until 1943 when they moved into Dundas. Mrs. Drentlaw passed away in 1945, and since then Mr. Drentlaw has made his home at the farm home of his son, Alvin, just on the edge of Dundas. On Wednesday morning, April 23, he had gone into the stall of a horse about 8 a. m., and it was thought he must have slipped or stumbled, for he fell beneath the horse and was badly trampled, he died immediately of a fractured skull and many other injuries. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Olerud (Irene) of Rochester; his son, Alvin; five grandchildren, Gerald Olerud, and Ronald, Judith, Richard and Diane Drentlaw; four sisters, Mrs. Louisa Johnson of Dennnison, Mrs. John Blegseth (Sophie) of Northfield, and Mrs. George Russell (Bertha) and Mrs. William Schoen (Emma) of Faribault.
