Brinkerhoff, 90, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Countryside Retirement Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Sylvia Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present beginning at 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Lillian was born June 10, 1920, in Sioux City, to George and Alma (Martinson) Comstock. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, and married John Brinkerhoff on Feb. 4, 1939, in Le Mars, Iowa. She took great pride in being a homemaker, raising her children, sharing her creativity in the various crafts she mastered, especially being a seamstress, and making most of her children's clothing. She taught crafts for 10 years at the YWCA in Sioux City. Lillian enjoyed music, singing and taught her children how to dance by having them stand on her feet. She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. Lillian is survived by her sons, Frank (Linda) Brinkerhoff and John Brinkerhoff Jr. of Sioux City; daughter, Peggy Stotz of Wickenburg, Ariz.; sister, Ramona Jessip of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1982; two brothers; and three sisters.4 |

Comstock Jr. George W. Comstock Jr., 83, formerly of Sioux City died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. The body has been cremated. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with the Rev. Janice Bennett of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserves. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. George was born Sept. 13, 1921, the son of George William and Alma (Mortenson) Comstock, in Sioux City. He married BettyJean E. Pierce on New Year's Day 1943. The couple lived in Sioux City until July 20, 2004, when they moved to Denison. BettyJean died Feb. 17, 2005, in Denison. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger during World War II. He attended Riverside United Methodist Church. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He was on the Sioux City Board of Education for more than 40 years. He took great pride and care of Roberts Stadium and caring for the schools until he retired. Most folks knew him as a joker. He loved gardening, camping, woodworking and he also enjoyed all children, lots of them. He was a very talented person, who could invent and fix about anything he tries, just ask George, he would know how. Survivors include a son, George (Joy) of Custer, S.D.; a daughter, Carole (Gene) Christiansen of Arion, Iowa; three sisters, Lula Lee, Lillian Brinkerhoff and Ramona Jessip, all of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Joyce Comstock of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Melonie (Matt) Jentges of Otsego, Minn., Christine (Larry) Stout of Fort Hood, Texas, Theresa (Todd) Pekelder of Watertown, S.D., Tanya (Gary) Sattler of Wallace, S.D., and Shawn and Sheila Comstock, both of Rapid City, S.D.; 11 great-grandchildren, Jessica J., Andy, Bucky, Ryan, Danielle, Jessica P., Sarah, Emily, Jordan, Joshua and Tashawna; six step-grandchildren, Randy (Julie) Christiansen of Helena, Mont., Vicky (Kenny) Abel of Clancey, Mont., Tammy (special friend, Doug) Christiansen of Helena, Mont., and Ashley, Lacey and Rachel Cheeseman of Custer, S.D.; six great-step-grandchildren, Amy (Oscar) Garcia of Austin, Texas, Becky Christiansen of Helena, Mont., Amanda (special friend, Tommy) Miller of Helena, Mont., Aleah Miller of McCook Lake, S.D., Alisha (Allen) Hall of Patterson, Calif., and Casey Abel of Clancey, Mont.; three great-great-step-grandchildren, Izziah, Aasin and Theron; and many nieces and nephews. Comstock, 85, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Joyce was born on Aug. 16, 1929, the daughter of Frank E. and Edith P. (Lawery) Perera, in Sioux City. She married Jared E. "Jerry" Comstock on Sept. 11, 1945, in South Sioux City. Joyce owned and operated Joyce's Ceramics for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Tristate Ceramic Association, where she held many offices over the years. She was also a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, quilting, and four wheeling with her nephew, Jim. She loved her dogs and her family was very important to her. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Valerie Comstock of Sioux City; one brother, Jerry Perera of Sioux City; one sister, Marion Morehead of Sioux City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and two brothers, Mervin and Jack.4 |
