In the name of God, amen. I, DANIEL CORNELIUS of Kent County, in the State of Maryland, being in a good state of health and of sound and disposing mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of my death and the shortness of life, desiring to settle my worldly business and thereby be the better prepared to greet time, it shall please God to call me, do therefore make and publish this my Last Will and Testament tin manner and form as follows. Viz. First and principally, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors, hereinafter named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise the bequeath as follows:
Item. I give and bequeath unto the children of GEORGE CORNELIUS, one hundred and fifty pounds to be equally divided between them.
Item. I give and bequeath to MALICENT CORNELIUS, two hundred pounds, and my will is that the above bequests be paid out of my estate after the death of my wife hereinafter named.
Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife, ROSAMOND CORNELIUS, all the market money that she has acquired since we have been married, suppose and about two hundred pounds.
Item. My will and desire is that the following Negroes, to wit. Dick, Jim, Big Bill, Little Bill, are to be hired out, having a choice of their masters and the money arising to be carried into my estate.
Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife ROSAMOND CORNELIUS, one third of my whole estate to be disposed of as she may chose and to have the profits of the remaining two thirds during her natural life, provided she gives security for its being paid over at their death to brothers and sisters or their representatives to whom I will, the said two thirds of my estate aforesaid, share, share alike.
Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife ROSAMOND during her natural life, the foregoing Negroes to wit, Monday, Jenny, Phil, Rachel, and Hannah. My desire is that Rachel be free at her mistress' death. And, lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife ROSAMOND CORNELIUS my whole and ___ Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, by me made and ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my Last Will and Testament

In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 19th day of ___ 1793.

Then came John W. Browning, Robert Moody and Mary Moody, the three subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Last Will and Testament of DANIEL CORNELIUS, late of Kent County, deceased, and severally made Oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, that they did see the Testator herein named, sign and seal this Will and that they heard him pronounce and declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament, that at the time of his so doing, he was in the best of their apprehension of sound disposing mind, memory and understanding, and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this Will in the presence and at the request of the Testator in the presence of each other.

Before Jn. Nicholson, Reg. Wills of Kent County, an Inventory of the goods and Chattles belonging to the estate of Daniel Cornelius of Kent County was appraised in current money of Maryland, rating Spanish dollars at seven shillings and six pence each, appraised by John Wilson and Joseph Rasin. They being first qualified before John Maxwell, one of the Justices for the County aforesaid, February 7, 1793. The amount valued of Daniel's estate (d. 1793 in Maryland) amounted to 886.10.6 3/4ths. His Inventory is in my files and rather lengthy to include here. (Entered for record on May 19, 2001 by Sherry Cornelius). Kent County, Maryland Administration Accounts 1790-1794 - 4th Additional Account of Robert Moody, surviving Administrator of Daniel Cornelius presented 9 December 1795. Liber 8:175.

The names of Daniel who died in 1793, George who died before 1793 and William Cornelius who died after 1793 were given by Ann Jarrell through the Cornelius List on 2-29-2000. Her source comes from the Kent County, Maryland Administration Accounts relating to the death of Daniel Cornelius who died in 1793. Mentions individuals below as children of Daniel Cornelius and Elizabeth Moffett: Andrew Cornelius, referred to as a brother (and his son John as a nephew) Children of Abraham Cornelius and Isaac Cornelius, both deceased, described as nieces and nephews. Cornelius and George William Riley, children of Sarah Cornelius and Joseph Riley, described as nephews. (Note: The court records do not indicate relationships between these individuals, I have copies of these in my files - S.C.
