John and Eleanor are believed to have lived in Baltimore Co. MD until 1774 ---However the 1779 Tax Listr for Bedford Co., PA is the earliest date known for John and his sons to be in PA.

A 'Quit Claim Release' of the heirs of John Cornelius dated 3 March 1812, provides the names of four sons, Joshua, Samuel, Peter and Benjamin Cornelius, as well as a daughter Mary along with their spouses' names, heirs who had not pre-deceased their father John Cornelius (Record BK W-1, p. 336).

John Cornelius is reportedly to have died in 1805 Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The accounts of Benjamin Cornelius, administrator of the estate of John Cornelius, confirmed by the Court 13 April 1807 (Orphans Court Docket B, p. 76).

(Note: CSC - It is interesting to note that there may be some relationship to the Ann Little who married George Moffett to the John Cornelius line, also of Maryland, who married Eleanor Little 27 November 1751, 'Maryland Marriages 1634-1777 by Robert Barnes). The first five sons were baptized in the St. Thomas Parish, three of them on the same day in July of 1757 to John Cornelius and Eleanor Little Cornelius:

William Cornelius, born 15 February 1754, St. Thomas Parish, Baltimore County, Maryland. William 'supposedly' died ca 1788 in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Note: Pretzer is uncertain that this William died ca 1788, there is no death record, he's going by the fact that this William disappears from the area and is replaced by an Elizabeth Cornelius who was a widow. In the 1790 Elizabeth appears with two daughters.

The following data from Sherry Cornelius certainly appears to change things around in this family a bit: We are not sure his wife is Elizabeth and now William has a new death date.

'From Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania records 'Renunciation of Nancy Cornelius' (She was the WIDOW of Samuel Cornelius, son of John and Eleanor Little Cornelius) Nancy renounces her right to administer the estate of her husband Samuel Cornelius, dated 9 June 1833. She signs with her 'mark'.

Then WILLIAM CORNELIUS is assigned admr. of Samuel's estate. The fact that an Elizabeth Cornelius appears as a widow in the tax list. We have nothing on this William, not even a wife's name.'

MemoMemo: Parents and birth recorded in LDS IGI. Like his brother Joseph, he is not mentioned in the settlement of his father John's estate. He may have died before his father or left the area. It's also possible that John was given his inheritance prior to his father's death. Both Peter and Samuel have been found in OH in the right time frame and they sure fit the naming pattern of John Cornelius and Eleanor Little. No other proof yet.1

Memo23 August 1850Memo: On 23 August 1850 Aaron Stains was appointed guardian of Mary and Prudence Cornelius of St. Clair Twp., Bedford County, who were minor daughters of John Cornelius, and who were granddaughters of Joshua Cornelius, late of Springfield Twp. who died around 1823. In the will of Joshua's dated 1832 I believe, there were six heirs of Joshua's: Elenor Rinker, James Cornelius, Jane Grimes, Margaret Coughenour and Ann Coughenour with mention in the will of certain items to his son John Cornelius (John being the only one actually mentioned in the will itself, the other 6 heirs named later in the will). This info gives us two children born to John Cornelius, son of Joshua, grandson of John and Eleanor Little Cornelius, those two being Prudence and Mary Cornelius.3
