NoteRufus Coleman was born March 24, 1845 in Arkansas. His Mother Artiemisia Grounds first married a man named Coleman she later married Harvy Neal Jacobs January 1848 in Hunt County, Texas. After marring Harvy they moved back to Arkansas where two of their children were born John B. and Mildred Susan Jacobs. They later moved to Halletsville, Lavaca County, Texas by 1860 having more children Mary, Thomas, Wesley and Alfred Jacobs. By 1870 the parents were no longer with them (possibly they had passed away). Rufus was head of the household with surviving children John, Mildred, Mary E. Thomas and Apper W. Rufus lived next door to the Rebecca Ford family and on February 8, 1872 he married the daughter of Rebecca Ford, the girl next door. By the year 1880 Rufus had moved his family to Bexar County, Texas and they had Rebecca, John and Presley. Catherine’s brother Presley Ford and his family lived next door to them. In the year 1900 still in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas they had another daughter Mildred Susiana born June of 1887. In the year 1910 Rufus already in his sixties moved to Travis County, Texas with his daughter Rebecca, her husband Henry Lee Daugherty and seven of their children Rufus N., Vardamon L., Nancy, Bailey, George, Roy N., and Alvin along with them his daughter Mildred Coleman and her nine month old son Virgil. Rufus stayed with family until his death September 12, 1923 and he was buried in the Austin Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas.3
