Burial in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan. Phyllis Georgia Rueter was born on January 15, 1922 in Horton Township, Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Emma (Riebesehl) Leckband. She graduated from the Ocheydan High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College. Phyllis was a teacher at Lone Star School House in Horton Township for 3 years. She was united in marriage to Marcus Rueter of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on June 6, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan, Iowa. They lived and farmed east of the Zion Lutheran Church. Phyllis helped Marcus on the farm and started Rueter Photography in the 1950’s. They retired in 1982. Marcus passed away on February 27, 1983. Phyllis volunteered at the Ocheyedan Public Library. She enjoyed reading, music and loved to sing. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Phyllis passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley. Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons: Loren Rueter of Melbourne, FL, Rodney Rueter and his life partner Marcia Bremer of Mesa, AZ; daughter-in-law: Judy and Scott Gaarder of Sibley, IA; her grandchildren: Matt Rueter of Sibley, IA, Jason and Cary Rueter of Sibley, IA, Stacey and Adam Reinke of Ashton, IA, Angie and Evan Palmer of Archer, IA, Amy and Kyle Hanisch of Harrisburg, SD, Sara and Eric Burnison of Minneapolis, MN; one brother: Stanley and Vivian Leckband of Prescott, AZ; one sister: Eunice Wulkow of Sac City, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband: Marcus; her son: Brian Rueter; her parents; one brother: James “Jim” Leckband.4 |

Ocheyedan, Iowa Mary Rueter, age 95 of Ocheyedan, IA died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA. Public visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Jurrens Funeral Home Andringa Chapel in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Rueter family will not be present. A private graveside service will take place Tuesday, December 15, 2020 with Reverend Richard Milbrandt officiating at the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. The family prefers memorials directed to the American Cancer Society. Jurrens Funeral Home of Ocheyedan is in charge of arrangements. Mary Christine Budden was born March 31, 1925 to Frederick and Mary (Jodon) Budden in Manhatten, Kansas. She attended school in Manhatten and graduated. After high school she attended Kansas State University and earned a BS in Home Economics. She was also a member of Kappa Phi. Christine was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Rueter on February 10, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Manhatten, Kansas. They lived on the farm North of Ocheyedan and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township. Kenneth passed away in February of 1994. She was a member of Dorcus Society at Zion and the family transferred to St. Peter Lutheran Church in 1961. She joined the LWMS and held several offices. Christine was a member of the choir and Alter Guild, a Sunday School teacher, she enjoyed card club, and was a library volunteer. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed wood carving, cake decorating, reading, knitting, crocheting, crafts, computer, and genealogy. Christine worked hard to earn enough credits to become a Home Economics teacher at Melvin School from 1963 to 1966. She worked very hard to take care of her family. She did a great job, and she will be missed very much. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Leon (Ruth) Rueter of Shakopee, MN, Cheryl Rueter of Ocheyedan, IA, Terry Dias of Canton, CT, Neal Rueter of Ocheyedan, IA; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Mary Budden; husband Kenneth; brother, Frederick Budden Jr.; son, Ryan A. Rueter; and grandson, Michael T. Monkemeier.4 |
