HEALD, Felix Pierpont
On August 10, 2004, FELIX PIERPONT HEALD, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, beloved husband of Mary Sutton Heald; devoted father of Anne, Deborah, Chris, Jennifer and Wendy and stepfather to Parker and Jay. Dr. Heald is also survived by grandchildren Chris, Juliet, Drew, Bo, Haley, Samantha, Emory and Connor. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Jean Truslow Heald. Dr. Heald was a pioneer of the field of adolescent medicine. Heald was Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland Medical School, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at George Washington University, Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children's National Medical Center, and President of the Society of Adolescent Medicine. He served as the President of the Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anne's Episcopal Church on Church Circle in Annapolis, MD. A reception will follow in the Friendship Hall at Ginger Cove, Riva Trace Drive, Annapolis, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Coastal Conservation Association.3

Felix Heald

Dr. Felix Pierpont Heald, 82, a resident of the Ginger Cove retirement community in Annapolis, died Aug. 10 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Dec. 3, 1921, in Baltimore, Dr. Heald was a pioneer in the field of pediatric and adolescent medicine. He graduated from Colorado College and from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

He served as chairman of the department of pediatrics at George Washington University Hospital and pediatrician-in-chief at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

He was a founder and former president of the Society of Adolescent Medicine and author of numerous books and articles on adolescent nutrition.

In 1990 he received the Mead Johnson Achievement Award for Adolescent Medicine and was named Pediatrician of the Year in Maryland. He was given the title of professor emeritus at the University of Maryland Medical School.

Interested in the environment, he served as president of the Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland and was a dedicated fisherman.

His first wife of 49 years, the late Jean Truslow Heald, was a founder of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization.

Surviving are his second wife, Mary Sutton Heald; one son, Chris Heald of North Bethesda; four daughters, Deborah Ayers Houghland of College Park, Anne Louise Heald of Falls Church, Va., Jennifer P. Heald of Massachusetts and Wendy Stevens of Nashville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Church Circle, with burial in St. Anne's Cemetery. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Coastal Conservation Association, 6919 Portwest, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77024.5
