The Daily Pantagraph Mrs Anna Brandt ANCHOR -- Mrs Anna Margaret Brandt, 64, died at 12:30 pm Thursday at Gibson Community Hospital in Gibson City. She had been a patient one day. Her funeral will be at 2:30 pm Sunday at St John's Church near Anchor, with the Rev Alexander Youck officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Sibley. Visitation was to begin at 10 am Friday at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. Mrs Brandt was born May 6, 1892, in Sibley, a daughter of Helmer and Meta Gronewald Huisman. She was married to Henry M Brandt March 16, 1909, in Sibley. She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Viola Brookstra, Elgin; Mrs Bernice Shreves, Paxton; Mrs Mildred Jamison, Elliott; Miss Norma, Sibley; two sons, Louie, Tremont; Albert, Sibley; four sisters, Mrs. Minne Farney, Pontiac; Mrs Lizzie Beck, Michigan; Mrs. (??? Unreadable - Lena) Ross, Hutchinson, Minn; Mrs. Grace Towner, Litchfield; a brother, Elmer Huisman, Forrest. She was preceded in death by a brother.2 |
Memo (fam) | Memo: (The following is a newspaper article about the family of Henry M Brandt.) Henry M Brandt Henry M Brandt, Jr. was born not too long after his parents immigrated to the United States from Germany. They settle in Ford County in the early 1800's and farmed three miles northeast of Sibley, Illinois. They had eight children born to them six boys and two girls who all became farmers in different parts of the country. The oldest sons became wheat ranchers in the state of Washington. The other children stayed in and around Ford County and became farmers. Henry married Anna Huisman in 1910 and he farmed in Livingston County for a year and then rented the Horace McClure farm 6 miles northwest of Gibson City where he farmed for twenty years. They raised six children when they lived on the McClure farm. Viola (b. 1910) graduated from Drummer Township High School in 1931. She worked at the Elgin National Watch Company for 21 years. She married Gerald Brookstra in 1951. He worked for the Chicago, Milwaukee Railroad and died in Feb. 1956 of a heart attack. Then she married L. Paul Lowe in 1960. He taught school in southern Illinois and retired in 1972. He died in 1975 Bernice graduated from Drummer Township High School in 1931. She married Floyd Shreves in 1939 and they live in Paxton. Floyd is retired from the Gas Company after 23 years of service. Louie was married to Marguerite Taylor. Louie did some farming with his dad and served in the armed forces during World War II. After his discharge from the service he worked for Doc May in construction. He died in April 1981. Marguerite works part time at the Gibson Hospital. Albert was also a farmer and served in the Navy during World War II for a couple of years. After his discharge from the service he farmed the Edith Ashley Farris farm until his retirement in 1981. He is married to the former Gerdy Blanck of Buckley, Illinois and they live in Sibley, Ill. Mildred is married to Leslie Jamison and they have made their home in Elliott, Illinois most of their married life. Leslie was Township Road Commissioner for a number of years. Norma Jean is married to Jean Lehman. They live in Urbana, Ill. Norma was a beauty operator but gave it up after marriage. Jean is in the heating and air conditioning business. Henry bought the Troyer farm in 1935 and lived there until he died in 1960.2 |

She was born Nov. 1, 1898, in Forrest, the daughter of Helmer and Meta Gronewald Huisman. She married Edward R. Towner in 1922. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1981, a brother and four sisters. Mrs. Towner was a machine opertor at Owen's Manufacturing Co. and FW Menas Co. for 12 years. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Roxie) Simburger of Temple, Ariz., and Mrs. Delores Walker of Bigsonton, Fla.; a son, Edward R Towner of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services at 9 am Wednesday at Staub Funeral Home, the Rev Thomas Radke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Buckhart. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was born in Forrest, a daughter of Helmer and Meta Gronewald Huisman. She married Edward R. Towner in 1922. He died in 1981. Also preceding her in death were a brother and four sisters. Dora Ruth Wenger PONTIAC - Dora Ruth Wenger, 78, of Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac, a homemaker, died at 2:05 am yesterday (July 3, 1990) at Saint James Hospital, Pontiac, after a one-week illness. Her funeral will be at 2:30 pm Thursday at Raleigh J Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev James Wolfe III officiating. Burial will be in South Side Cemetery, Pontiac. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Wenger was born Feb. 11, 1912, at Forrest, of a daughter of Henry and Minnie Huisman Farney. She married Raymond L. Wenger Nov 19, 1928, in Chicago. He died March 31, 1980. Survivors include one son Everett Dean, Fairbury; two sisters, Edna Redford, Warren, Mich., and Helen Slayton, South Bend, Ind.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. One grandchild preceded her in death. Mrs. Wenger, who was educated in rural schools southeast of Pontiac, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pontiac. Memorials may be made to her church.4 |
